Vata Ree (Mathews) Phillips

VATA REE PHILLIPS

Vata Ree Phillips, 87, of South Pittsburg Mountain, Tennessee was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 1, 2023.  She was born to the late Virgil Mathews and Maggie Holder Mathews on August 22, 1935.  She was married to the late Jack Phillips, and she was a member of Orme Mountain Church of God.  She retired from Avondale Carpet Mill and later worked for Walmart for thirteen years. Vata loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved cookouts, her church family and reading the bible.

Vata is preceded in death by her father, Virgil Mathews; mother, Maggie Holder Mathews; husband, Jack Phillips; son Andrew Phillips; brothers, Austin Mathews, Arthur Mathews; sister, Virginia Nunley and grandson, Jeremiah Phillips.

Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Jacky Phillips, Hal Phillips, Ronnie Phillips, Mark Phillips; brothers Billy (Carol) Mathews, Pete (Rita) Mathews; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews; one great grandchild and one great-great grandchild along with many other family members and special friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm CST and on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm CST at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tennessee.

Funeral services are on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 1:00 pm CST in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home, Jasper, Tennessee with Pastor Kevin York officiating.

The burial will be on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Orme Cemetery in South Pittsburg, Tennessee immediately following the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Troy Bolton, Austin McNabb, B. J. McCallister, Tommy Raulston, Lincoln Bunch and Nathan Holder.
