Steven "Steve" Austin Merrell

STEVE MERRELL

Steven Austin Merrell, 65, of Jasper, TN went home to be with the Lord on March 14, 2020. Steve was born on December 15, 1954 in Chattanooga, TN. He was a graduate of East Ridge High School, Class of 1972, and a graduate of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary of Fort Worth Texas. 

Steve retired from Colonial Chemical in December 2019. He was an avid reader and kept up with news and with friends on social media.

Steve was a faithful servant of God, serving in many churches throughout the years as minister of music, youth, and education. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper. 

He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Grandpa.  He coached many ball teams for his kids throughout the years and loved playing with his grandkids. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary Merrell. He is survived by his wife Susan, his children Kelly (Robert) Toline (Alyssa and Olivia), Kevin (Jennifer) Merrell (Addilyn), Cory (Lindsay) Merrell (Emma, Brooke, Evan), his sister Carol (Tom) Brown, his mother-in-law Martha Mavity, brothers-in-law Michael (Kathy) and George (Debbie) Mavity, sister-in-law Gilda (Michael) Barnett, and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm CDT/3:00 pm to 9:00 pm EDT at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, TN.

Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am CDT/10:30 am to 12:00 noon EDT at the First Baptist Church of Jasper in Jasper, TN.

The funeral service will be following the Wednesday visitation at 11:00 am CDT/12:00 noon EDT at the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Pastor Michael Mavity and Pastor Greg Steele officiating.  

Steve will be laid to rest at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN after the funeral service.
