Mrs. Shirley Minter Barnette, 87, of Chattanooga, Tennessee died unexpectedly, Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

She was a graduate of Marion County High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University.  She and her family are long term members of Christ Church Episcopal in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  She proudly worked for sixteen years at Memorial Hospital in Nursing Administration and was able to share her giving spirit with both patients and those she worked with.

Mrs. Barnette was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Lemma Minter; husband, DeArnold “De” Barnette and her sister, Jean Matthews.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Adam) Quirk of Frederick, Maryland, DeAnn Barnette of Chattanooga, Tennessee; son, Robert (Leslie) Barnette of Jasper, Tennessee; sisters, Nancy Grider, Mary Looney; brother, Mike Minter; four grandchildren, Ryan (Carmen) Barnette Quirk, Avery Vann Quirk, Ella Grace Barnette, Elijah Jason Barnette; great granddaughter, Quinlan Rose Quirk and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm CST at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tennessee.  There will also be a memorial service at Christ Episcopal located at Douglas and McCallie Avenue in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 11:00 am EST.

There will be a graveside service on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 4:00 pm CST at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tennessee with Pastor Barry Grider officiating.

The family would welcome any donations to Christ Church Episcopal in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
