Paul Koger Obituary

PAUL RICHARD KOGER

Paul Richard Koger, 50 years old, gained his heavenly wings on Sunday, March 7, 2021, due to complications from stroke-induced health issues. He was raised in Jasper, TN, and loved his small community. He was born on May 29, 1970, to his loving parents, Ralph and Debby Koger. Paul was of the Methodist faith and a member of the McKendree Methodist Church in Jasper, TN.

He attended Marion County High School and graduated in the Class of 1988. Paul was proud to be on the MCHS football team during his high school years and was honored to sport #50 on his football jersey each Friday night during football season. As a teenager, Paul ran a relatively successful lawn care business, until his questionable driving skills resulted in the demise of his father’s lawnmower, at which time he began working at Ingle’s as a cashier. After graduation, Paul attended ETSU and UTC. During his time in school and for a few years after, Paul worked as the Aquatic Director at YMCA in Chattanooga, where he taught countless children to swim. Paul later switched his career path to follow in his father’s footsteps working with Tennessee Farm Bureau Insurance. Paul stayed with Farm Bureau for the remainder of his professional life, working as a Senior Claims Representative for 17 years.

Paul was known to pride himself on giving the most thoughtful gifts for any occasion. During his high school years, Paul elected to become an organ donor. And now, through his amazing spirit of giving, he’s been allowed to give the greatest gift of all; the gift of life. His family and friends should feel peace in knowing that their beloved Paul will live on through this selfless gift.

Paul loved his family and he made them his top priority. His favorite times were spent with his two beautiful daughters, supporting their every endeavor. There was probably never a prouder father than Paul.

He was a passionate football fan, loving both the Tennessee Volunteers and the Marion County Warriors. Also, he enjoyed traveling to the beach and spending as much time with his girls as he could. He loved being a community volunteer, from playing Santa Claus to coaching kids in football. Paul was a TSSAA referee for 18 years and was honored as the 2017 recipient of “Bud Hicks Award” for his contributions to high school football across the state.

He will forever be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, thoughtful gift giving ability, loving smile and huge heart.

Paul leaves his precious memories to his daughters, Gracie Koger and Ava Koger; parents, Ralph and Debby Koger; brother, Andy and his wife, Stephanie Koger; nephews, Lincoln and Jack Koger; aunts and uncles, Rick and Becky Pollard, Brian and Linda Hogg, Dr. Robert Koger along with several cousins, and many cherished friends.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Paul’s name to the Marion County High School Quarterback Club at PO Box 2532 Jasper, TN 37347.

The family will have a funeral service on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2:00 pm CT/3:00 pm ET at McKendree United Methodist Church in Jasper, TN. The service will be officiated by Reverend Joseph Manis, Sr.
