Olene (Stone) Blackburn

OLENE BLACKBURN, 97 of Jasper, TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021.  Olene was the daughter of the late Dennis W. Stone and Mirtie Meador Stone of Macon County, TN.  Olene was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga.  She worked at Oak Ridge during WWII as a calutron operator, later she spent almost 40 years teaching elementary grades mostly in Marion County, TN.  She loved to travel.  Her husband, Bob, and she spent many years traveling, visiting, and camping in most of North America.  She was a long-term member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper and spent many happy hours working in the church and the nursery.  She was a loving mother and grandmother to her family which gave total meaning to her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Robert W. Blackburn and son D. Randal Blackburn. 

She is survived by son R. Stephen Blackburn (Vicki) and daughter in law Andrea Kennedy Blackburn all of Jasper, grandchildren Robert Blackburn (Carina) of Nashville, Jason Blackburn (Bethany) of Pittsburgh, PA, Amy Tompkins (Eric) of Smyrna and Will Blackburn of San Francisco, CA.  She has several great grandchildren Clara, Ellen, Daniella, Hawken, Peter Blackburn and Theo, Gus Tompkins. 

The family will have visitation on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm CST at Tate Funeral Home.  Also on November 19, 2021, from 8:30 am to 10:00 am CST.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 10:00 am CST in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Steele officiating the service.

Pallbearers are Jason Blackburn, Robert Blackburn, Will Blackburn, Eric Tompkins, Joe Gordon, and Eric Criswell.  Honorary pallbearers are Edna Smith, Billy Sloan, Libby Bradford, Ronnie Daus, Robert Presson, Wayne Presson, and Millicent Young, and Amy Tompkins.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN.
