Margie Stone Obituary

MARGIE LOUISE (GRAY) STONE

Margie Louise (Gray) Stone, 90 years young, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, February 16, 2020.  She was born on May 7, 1929 in Kimball, TN to Joe Daniel and Leatha Jane Colvin Gray (deceased).   Margie was a resident of South Pittsburg, TN.

Margie married her sweetheart, John W. Stone (deceased 4/4/59) on February 2, 1945.  Soon after, they moved to the coal mine towns of Virginia and lived there until the untimely death of her husband.  She was a left a widow at the young age of 29, with seven (7) children ages from 3 months to 12 years of age to raise.  She never remarried and was determined to raise her children in a loving home.  She instilled in each of them that “if you have clothes on your back, food on your table and love in your home, you are the richest person in the world.”  She also instilled that “good-byes must include a “I Love You”, a hug and a kiss on the cheek”, because you never know when it will be your last day.  She was so rich in love and yes, loved by one and all.

Granny Stone and JW are survived by their seven children; Roy (Ann) Stone, Jasper; Linda (Jimmie) Morrison, New Hope; Johnny (Linda) Stone, South Pittsburg; Donnie (Anita) Stone, Hazel Green, AL; Carolyn (Wayne) Rollins, New Hope; Debbie Mayfield, South Pittsburg; and Sheila (Larry) Nelson, Woodbridge, VA.  Their family grew in numbers and love by adding seventeen (17) grandchildren and thirty-six (36) great-grandchildren.  Their family legacy will live forever.

She is also survived with three sisters-in-law, Alice and Eileen Gray of Rockford, IL and Mary Gray of Kimball along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margie was known by most as Granny Stone, owner and operator of Stone’s Dairy Bar for 42 years.  This special lady had a heart of gold, a smile for everyone and would give the shirt off her back to help her “children” or anyone she thought needed help.  Granny Stone will always be remembered for her cheeseburgers, desserts and countless free meals at the dairy bar.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Daniel and Leatha Gray; six sisters, Virgie Davis, Pete (Lena) Brown, Jennie O’Leary, Gladys Phillips, Billie (Willie) Ward, and Betty Gill; six brothers, Woody, Tom, Fred, Jack, Leonard and Lambert Gray.

The family will have a “Celebration of Life” on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 1:00 pm CST at Tate’s Funeral Home in Jasper, TN with her nephews, Reverend’s Hoyt Stone, Lynn Stone and Jimmy Stone officiating.

The family welcomes all family and friends for visitation on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm CST and Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm CST at Tate Funeral Home.
