LEONARD LEWIS COFER

 

Leonard Lewis Cofer, 83, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  He was born in Campbell County, Tennessee, May 19, 1937.  Leonard was a graduate of Rockwood High School in Rockwood, Tennessee.

 

He served from 1959-1961 in the United States Army and in the U.S. Army reserves till 1963.  He moved his family to Jasper, Tennessee in 1968 where he remained.  He worked in steel alloy manufacturing until he retired in 2000.  He also owned and operated Cofer Lathe Craft, Inc. until 2019 when he retired at the age of 80.  Leonard served as chairman of the Sequatchie Valley Fire Department for many years.  During his time there, the department built two new fire stations; as well as improved the fire trucks and equipment to serve his community.

 

Leonard was a dedicated husband and a fun and loving father to his two girls.  He was a leader and friend to everyone.  Leonard never met a stranger. He always said you should learn at least one thing from everyone you meet. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alice Cofer of Rockwood, Tennessee; his brothers, Jim Beaird and Kenneth Cofer; his sister, Mary K. Podruchny and his daughter, Kathy Cofer Folds.

 

Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Ruth Cofer; daughter, Sandra (Tommy) Ireland; son-in-law, David Folds; grandchildren, Nathanael Folds, Daniel (Payton) Ireland; Amelia Ireland and finance, Josh Pickett; sister, Carol Bohannon; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Beaird along with several nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

 

The family will have a graveside service on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 3:00 pm CT at Pine Grove Cemetery in Jasper, TN with Pastor Greg Steele officiating.
