JOHN EDWARD THOMPSON

John Edward Thompson, 72, was born on December 24, 1948 and passed away peacefully on September 6, 2021 in his Jasper home surrounded by his loving family.

John was retired from the United States Navy after 17 years of service.  He was a very loving man that loved his family very much and was always checking to make sure all of them were taken care of.  He loved playing and singing music, his Tennessee Volunteers Football and his Atlanta Braves, but his favorite pastime was making regular visits to see his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bertha Thompson; daughters, Kim (JD) Genter and Angie Thompson; grandchildren, Brittany (Wade) Slatton, Trey Hill, Maddy and Owen Givens; great grandchildren, Maverick and Camille Slatton; brother, Randy Shirley; and sister, JoAnn Hurst.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Murphy Johnson; father, William Eugene Thompson; brothers, Larry Thompson and Ricky Shirley.

The family will have visitation on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 4:00 pm CST to 7:00 pm CST and Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm CST at Tate Funeral Home, LLC, in Jasper, TN. 

Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home following the visitation on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm CST with Pastor Donnie Moreland officiating.

Pallbearers are Trey Hill, J.D. Genter, Cory Cagle, Travis Shipley, Ronnie Givens and Wade Slatton.

Interment will be held at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens, Jasper, TN along with Military Honors conducted by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.
