JIMMY R. MCCLAIN

 

Jim McClain, 81, weighed anchor for his final voyage on Monday, March 30, 2026.  On November 28, 1944, he was born to Walter C. McClain and Nannie Smith McClain in Stevenson, Alabama.  Jimmy was married to Harriet Hawkins McClain for 59 years.  He served in the United States Navy for 8 years during the Vietnam War where he received several recognitions such as, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Award ( 1st award).  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked for TVA with the Local IBEW 175 Union as a Journeyman Wireman before retiring.  He was a member of the American Legion in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, Post 62, a member of FLEA-Fraternal Order of Linemen and Electricians.  Jimmy enjoyed fishing, reading, building computers, and repairing televisions and radios.  He coached girls softball in his younger years and enjoyed traveling with the teams.  Jimmy was a good father, husband, and grandfather.  He was a lover of words and would look up any word he was unsure of in the dictionary.

 

Jimmy is preceded in death by his father, Walter C. McClain; mother, Nannie Smith McClain; brother, Roy McClain; brother-in-law, Jerry L. Hawkins; and nephew, Michael McClain.

 

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Harriet Hawkins McClain; daughters, Lisa (Loyd) McClain- Moss, Sidney (Chris) McClain Cleveland; daughter by choice, Angela Hicks; brothers, Walter (Judy) McClain, Charlie (Teresa) McClain; sisters, Jerrie Ruth Smith, Connie D. (Jeff) Taylor; 3 grandchildren, Marisa Moss, Grayson Cleveland, Madalyn Cleveland; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

 

Visitation is on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm CST at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tennessee.

 

Graveside service is on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Orme Mountain Cemetery in South Pittsburg, Tennessee immediately following the visitation.

 

Pallbearers are Marisa Moss, Grayson Cleveland, Madalyn Cleveland, Craig McClain, Chris Cleveland and Tim Allison.

 

Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard will present military Honors graveside.
