After a very lengthy illness, the Lord said its time to come home James Edward Slatton as he was surrounded by his family on Friday, November 1, 2019. James was 90 years old and lived in Jasper, TN. He was self-employed as an equipment operator with a career in a backhoe and dump truck business. As his family stated, no one they knew loved a job as James did when he showed off his talents with his backhoe.
James was of the Baptist faith and a member of Fairview Union Church in Whitwell, Tennessee.
He is preceded in death by parents, Hershel and Deila Slatton; son, Eugene “Louie” Slatton; six brothers; seven sisters, and grandson, Josh Slatton.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 70 years, Nellie Slatton; sons, Edward (Sue) Slatton, Rick Slatton, and Rexy (Betty) Slatton; daughters, Susie Slatton (Ron Zirk) and Frankie “Gina” Slatton along with eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm CDT and Monday, November 4, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm CDT at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, TN.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home following the visitation on Monday at 1:00 pm CDT.
James will be laid to rest at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN following his funeral service.
