HORACE WILLIAM HIBBS
Horace William Hibbs of Kimball, TN, age 77, passed away on March 22, 2020. He was the son of the late Oscar Raymond Hibbs and Sarah Gertrude Payne Hibbs.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Samuel and Alvin Hibbs, and sisters, Linda and Robina Hibbs.
Horace grew up on South Pittsburg Mountain, TN and attended Orme School, followed by South Pittsburg High School. He began working as a young adolescent in his father's coal mines in Orme and continued to do so until he became employed by Sequatchie Concrete in 1965. He began as a truck driver, moved to a mechanic position, followed by the position of shop foreman and finally a company equipment manager. He loved and was devoted to his family, proudly sharing their accomplishments. He enjoyed his many friends and was skilled at sharing a humorous tale, but also enjoyed a good belly laugh from hearing one. Bluegrass music was his passion, as he was a talented flat top picker and fiddle player. He thoroughly enjoyed his job at Sequatchie Concrete Service and was instrumental in the growth and success of the company.
Horace loved life and enjoyed every minute he was afforded. He stood resilient in the face of many health complications later in his life, never complaining.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Marie Carolyn Rector Hibbs; son, Mark Edward (Laura) Hibbs of Lakesite, TN; son, Horace Darren Hibbs of Ft Lauderdale, FL; daughter, Shannon Hibbs McClain of Stevenson, AL; grandchildren, Brittany McClain, Brooke (Luke) McCulley, Rex Lawhorn, Gracie Hibbs and great-granddaughter, Zoey McCulley. Giles, Wilma (Jimmy) Haun, Freda (John) Sitz, Roy (Ruth) Hibbs, Charles Hibbs, Paul (Wilma) Hibbs, Rachel Crawford, Danny (Gail) Hibbs, Johnny (Joyce) Hibbs, and Joe (Carol) Hibbs.
