After a lengthy illness, the Lord called Henry Haskell Hobbs, Jr., at the age of 85 years, to his heavenly home. Henry was born in Altamont, TN to the late Henry H. Hobbs, Sr. and Emma Roberts Hobbs. After marrying his beloved wife, Carrie Dockery Hobbs, they lived a short time in the Chattanooga, TN community. Later they made their final home in Sequatchie, TN.
Henry was a wonderful and loyal man of God, husband, father, son, grandfather, father-in-law and best friend to many. He was a welder, a carpenter who built 52 houses over his career, and a church leader. He was a bass player and a gospel music singer, and was beloved by the many who enjoyed his music and knew him as the one and only “Uncle Henry.” He and Carrie traveled together all across the United States and Europe, and both were always eager to share their Baptist faith and love for their Lord with anybody who would listen. He was a man of humor and depth, a comedian and a poet. Most of all, he was a man of inspirational faith, and a husband of unshakable devotion.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Hobbs.
Those who are left to cherish his memory include, his wife of 64 years, Carrie Dockery Hobbs; son, James “Jim” Gregory Hobbs (Alinda); daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Hobbs Kennedy (Jim); brothers, Hother Thomas “H.T.” Hobbs (Mary Ann) and Bobby Jo Hobbs (Judy); sister, Edna Johnston (Jim); grandchildren, Megan Sharee Metelka (Kyle), Hunter Grey Hobbs (Emily Brooke Featherston) , John Wesley Kennedy and Heather Lanelle Rankin (Bobby) and two great-grandchildren, Bronxton and Bexley Rankin; best friend, Kenny King along with several nieces and nephews.
