ENNIS JOHNSON "CANDYMAN" RHODES, 88, died Monday, December 20, 2021, at his home. He was born on December 4, 1933, in Jacks Creek, TN to Wilda Johnson Rhodes and F.L. “Abb” Rhodes.
He made his home for the last sixty years in Jasper, TN and was the owner of Rhodes Candy Company and was known as “Candy Man.” He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jasper and in 2019, at the age of 85, he became the oldest person ever baptized by Pastor Greg Steele. He served his Country in the Tennessee National Guard from 1951 to 1964. He was a huge sports fan! He loved his TN Volunteers and his Atlanta Braves, and he was so happy to see his Braves win the World Series again this year. He was an avid fisherman and he loved to cook crappie and feed his family and friends. He might be the only person in history to get an orange Vol’s cap signed by both Peyton Manning and Archie Manning, and he wore it fishing until the autographs were almost unreadable.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilda Johnson Rhodes and F.L. “Abb” Rhodes; sister, Carol Jane Schmidt; brother, Wayne Rhodes; mother of his children, Nancy Ruth Rhodes; and a special friend, Martha Turner.
E.J. leaves his memories to his son, Tony (Tammie) Rhodes; daughter, Jeannine (Greg) Younger; grandsons, Marcus Younger, Randy (Alana) Rhodes, and Danny (Jennifer) Rhodes; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Rhodes; brother-in-law, John Schmidt; and a host of family and friends.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Terry Haag and Amy Ragan, and the staff of Chattanooga Hospice.
