At the night of dark, William G. “Bill” Nelson, age of 89, was called Home by his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 6, 2019. Bill passed away at his home in Sequatchie, Tennessee with his family standing by his side. He was of the Baptist faith along with being a member of Midway Baptist Church in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
Bill served in the Army during the Korean War. He was employed through his lifetime at Tennessee Valley Authority, Penn Dixie and a self-employed mechanic until he retired. He loved his family so much. He enjoyed working on cars, farming, gardening, fishing and most of all his greatest love was coon hunting. He was a man that adored the great outdoors.
Mr. Bill worshipped his Great Lord and Jesus Christ. If you ever met him, he would show you a little card with this saying:
If we meet and you forget me,
You have lost nothing.
If you meet Jesus Christ and forget Him,
You have lost everything
Preceded in death were his parents, Isaac Dennis Nelson and Pearl Nichols Nelson; daughter, Gwendolyn Nelson Troy; brothers, Alvin Nelson, J.L. Nelson, George Nelson, Charles Nelson, Sam Nelson and sister, Anna Laura Wilson.
The loved ones left to cherish his memories are his wife, Virginia Murray Nelson; sons, William “Dennis” (Connie) Nelson, Walter “Scott” (Lechele) Nelson; daughter, Beverly Nelson Smith; brothers, Henry “Luther” Nelson, Tommy (Linda) Nelson, and sister, Jenny Goodner along with six grandchildren; Kevin (Jennie) Smith; Chastity (Doug) Bradford, Angel (Keith) Findley, John Troy, MaKayla Nelson, Matthew Nelson and three great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Brooklynn Findley and Gregory Bradford. Bill had numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm CST at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tennessee.
The funeral will be conducted in the chapel of Tate Funeral Home on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 1:00 pm CST with Pastor Jeff Nelson officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tennessee.
