The Lord called Jerry M. Long, Sr. home on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Jerry was born in Jasper, TN and made his final home in Kimball, TN. Jerry was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Jasper, TN.
Before his retirement, Jerry worked at Shaw Industries as a Fork Lift Operator. Jerry was known for his love of the South Pittsburg Pirates and it was said he tried for many years to convert his niece, Tina Wilson to become a “Pirate Fan” with no success. He had the love of fishing, hunting, and loved picking on his friends and family. His past time was Eagle watching and learning their habitat. Jerry was a huge fan of the Tennessee Vols, Atlanta Braves, and Atlanta Falcons. His family expressed that Jerry was a very loving and caring man to all that came into his life and they knew he loved them to death. Jerry’s loving heart made everyone that knew him treasure him with sincere love.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Jack Long; mother, Hulette Long Norton; and stepfather, Fred Norton.
The hearts he leaves behind are his wife, Vickie Long; son, Jerry “Red” M. Long, Jr., brother, John (Georgette) Norton; sister, Susan (Ted) Smith; special niece, Tina Wilson; special nephew, Jason Smith, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Flowers will be appreciated or donations made be made to Tate Funeral Home for Jerry’s funeral expenses.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 28th, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm CDT and Saturday, June 29th, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm CDT at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation on Saturday in the Chapel at Tate Funeral Home with Doyle Chamblee officiating.
Jerry will be laid to rest at Havron’s Chapel Cemetery in Jasper, TN.
