Ida Shockley Obituary

Ida Roberta Shockley (Ms. Bert) 83 of South Pittsburg, TN went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Parkridge Medical Center. Ida was born on September 25, 1935, to the parents of the late Robert Shockley of Sparta, TN and the late Edna Mauberry of Cleveland, OH.

She is preceded in death by her parents along with daughters, Ella (Tiny) Shedd Vance and Windi Johnson Hale of South Pittsburg, TN; brother, James Shockley Sparta, TN; sister, Diann Gossett Cleveland, OH and grandson, Chris Johnson of South Pittsburg, TN.

Those to cherish her memories are her daughters, Tammy Lankford and Goivonnie Johnson of South Pittsburg, TN; sister, Anna Cross, Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Anthony Shedd, Hayward, CA, Markus Shedd, Garry (Katalia) Taylor, Sable Robinson, Jajuan Lankford of South Pittsburg;  along with a host of  grandchildren,  great grandchildren, nieces, cousins, loved ones and friends.

Ida attended McReynolds High School. She did domestic work for many years to raise her loving children. She was a child of God, a member of Mt. Bethlehem Baptist Church, a loving grandmother, and a dear friend to many others.

She held a special place in her heart for many that loved her and called her Moma Bert.  She would cook big dinners made from love for her love ones, neighbors, friends and anyone that might stop by, even if it was in a takeout plate, which she wouldn’t eat her dinner on. She enjoyed shopping at the Goodwill, Unclaimed Baggage and QVC. She loved to shop for hats, clothes, shoes, trinkets, Black Art, flowers just to, name a few and her collections wasn’t small neither. She also loved to decorate at Christmas time. She loved reading, hearing, teaching and speaking the word.

She loved to give the word and talk about life to everyone who would listen, and she had a lot of years to gain this knowledge. She would always say give me my flowers while I’m living and at the same time she had the most beautiful flowers a yard could hold.

The family wishes to acknowledge the following:  Special thanks to Parkridge West, Parkridge Medical Center, Hospice of Chattanooga, loved ones, along with family and friends.  The family of Ms. Bert would like to thank everyone for home visits, hospital visits, food, cards, flowers, etc.  Special thanks to all who made this truly a celebration.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 28th, 2019 at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, TN from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm CDT.  The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 29th, 2019 at Mt.
