Betty June Haggard Obituary

On Friday, February 15, 2019, Betty June Haggard of Chattanooga, Tennessee went to be with her Lord.

Betty June Haggard was born in Daus, Tennessee on April 14, 1930 to Fred and Icie Bailey Campbell.  She spent much of her youth in Marion County, Tennessee.  In 1946, she married the love of her life, Leonard Haggard; they moved to Chattanooga and raised four boys together.  For many years, Betty tended not only to the care of her boys, but to many children in the neighborhood.  Her sweet spirit and patient demeanor made her special to many families in Lake Terrace, especially best friend and next door neighbor, Mary Wolfe.  After her boys were grown, she worked at the Kleen-A-Matic on Highway 58.  Her greatest passion was her Christian faith.   Leonard and she were a founding family of the Lake Hills Church of God.  Throughout her life, she was faithful to her calling to “be a light for Jesus” in Sunday School, raising money for missions, quiet deeds to uplift others in the church and all around her.  She had many loving friends from her church family and the neighborhood where she lived out her faith.  As her family grew with daughters-in-law and grandchildren, she continued to shine in showing grace and love to all.  She was a kind and loving “Nana” to everyone and leaves behind many treasured memories of her love and guidance (along with lots of little quilts).

Betty June was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Leonard Haggard; along with her parents; brothers, J.B. (survived by Betty) Campbell and Jackie (survived by Ollie Mae) Campbell, and sisters, Maggie Nelson and Bonnie Foote.

She leaves behind her boys, Claude (Gail) Haggard, Michael Haggard, Larry (Cherie) Haggard, and Ronnie (Barbara) Nelson.  She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren; Ron (Paula) Nelson, Bill (Katie) Nelson, Jay (Shane) Haggard, Joy (Denny) Heddleson,  Jon (Ashley) Haggard, Jessica (Jeremy) Clark, and Megan (Will) Hunter along with great-grandchildren, Mason Ford,  Cory and Tatsi Nelson, Blake, Cooper and Brett Haggard, Katie Schober, Savannah Miller and Jadon and J.P. Clark.  She is also survived by two great-great grandchildren Kaiden and Kadence Holloway along with several special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty June spent the last year of her life cared for and surrounded by her loving family, Claude, Gail and Cinnamon with special visits and entertainment by Little Sylum.  She is also survived by Nicholas (Amelia), Olivia and Chloe Warnock, Bailey, Brody and Lauren Zimmer, Cody Ray, Aaron, Devin and Daryl Warnock.

The family wishes to give special thanks to those who were so loving to Betty June throughout this difficult time in her life.  Thanks goes to Mary Lynn and Bill Daughtery, Oma Dawson, Dr. Colin Cherry and nurse, Kathy, the staff of Southern Heritage Assisted Living, Cleveland Hospice and especially to Melvin Dawson for officiating her home-going service.
